What Colton Has Been Up To Lately

After such a big milestone as turning 6 months old, little Coltie has been adding even more skills to his repertoire. He can now sit up unassisted for several minutes! I have to put him in the sitting position in the first place, however. He is babbling more and more- to his toys, hands, and binky. Colton constantly takes the binky out of his mouth to examine it and then attempts to put it back in (he usually ends up placing it backwards or upside down).

He has now tried all of the Stage 1 fruits and vegetables, so we moved him onto Stage 2 which includes... meat! Who knew you could puree roast beef in its own gravy and call it a meal? It looks and smells oh so appetizing, too. Colton isn't really thrilled with it yet either. :)

Our little boy is still sleeping great- three naps a day, plus 11-12 hours at night. It's a parent's dream! Coltie has so much hair now, also. Gregg keeps saying we'll need to take him for a haircut soon. It's kind of a dirty blonde, and depending on the light he can look more blonde or brunette. Still has those amazing blue eyes.

Happy 6 Month Birthday Colton!

Dear Coltie,

My how time flies. You're half a year old already! It seems like only yesterday we were welcoming you into the world. I remember seeing you for the first time and thinking how perfect (and tiny!) you were. I couldn't believe something so beautiful and amazing was actually mine. I just marveled at how wonderfully and fearfully you had been made.

Those first few weeks were strange and difficult as I tried to navigate my new role as your mommy. But we made it through them together just fine. Now it feels like you've been in our lives forever. It's hard to remember what life was like without you. You bring me such joy every day as I watch you grow and develop. You are constantly taking in the world around you, eager to learn new things. I enjoy introducing you to new toys, books, music, food. I love holding you at night before you fall asleep. I love seeing you smile and laugh when I sing, make funny faces, or tickle you. Your laugh is the best sound in the world.

At six months, you are exploring everything. Grabbing everything in sight, including the dinner plates and utensils! You love to watch Tess and are fascinated by every move she makes. You can almost sit up all by yourself. You have a hearty appetite and have mastered the art of eating with a spoon. You like to hold your bottle while I'm feeding you, too! You have started to realize that you have hands and they can help you do all sorts of neat things.

Colton, you are loved so much. By me and your daddy, your grandparents, Jesus. I thank God for you every day and pray that you will have a personal relationship with the One who created you. I pray that you will keep your child-like wonder and won't let fear stop you from pursuing your dreams in life.

I look forward to watching you grow up more over these next six months. You are very, very special, and I am so blessed to have you.

Colton tried helping me fold laundry, but he got bored and fell asleep.

Colton is very interested in exploring his surroundings now! He'll stare at Tess while she's playing with a chew toy and follow her with his eyes when she walks away. He likes to observe what's going on outside the window, too. And this morning, as I was sitting at the kitchen table with Colton on my lap, he reached for a small plate that was left over from breakfast and pulled it towards him almost sending it crashing to the floor! He continued to be fascinated with the smooth, round object until I took it away.

He also gets really excited when the music starts playing on the car tray attached to his walker. He flails his arms and legs like he's dancing and shrieks very loudly. It is so cute (and ear piercing)!

Colton Update

I can't believe Colton will be five months old a week from today! He is just growing up so fast...

He continues to be a pretty easy baby. He still sleeps through the night with no problem and is usually content to just sit in his bouncer or walker with a toy while I'm folding laundry or eating a meal. He only gets really cranky when he's hungry or when I put him down and he still wants to be held.

Colton now grabs EVERYTHING and tries to put it into his mouth. It's so funny watching him try to fit the entire Lamaze cube toy in his tiny little mouth. Then he gets frustrated, like why aren't you going in?? He'll grab a whole fistful of my hair, which is making me seriously consider cutting it all off. Now I know why most moms have short hair! He will also grab the tabs on his diaper while I'm changing him. It's cute, but it makes changing sessions more difficult because I have to pry one side of the diaper out of his hand and quick fasten it before he grabs ahold again.

He's started making that happy baby squeal, seemingly to nothing in particular, and usually when he is entertaining himself in the crib or bouncy seat. It's so precious to hear. He has also begun doing the tantrum-y cry, which is not so precious. A few times a day, he makes farty noises with his lips and it is hysterical to listen to.

We've started him on solids and so far, he seems to like the baby food he's tried. The first few times Colton made a face like he just tasted a lemon, but he got used to it pretty quickly. I was surprised when he actually ate an entire jar of sweet potatoes with no protesting. It made his poop orange, though. I can't wait until he has peas for the first time. :)

I've had to put more clothes away that he can't fit into anymore. Colton's already into size 3 diapers and wearing 6-9 month clothes. There are still some 3-6 month outfits that he hasn't outgrown yet. I don't understand the way they size different clothes, because he fits into some outfits in his age range no problem but others are either really tight or too short on him. Anyway, his hair is finally growing! After he lost his newborn hair, it took forever to come back in. It's now a lot lighter than it was when he was born. I wonder if he'll be a blondie like I was as a baby. He still has those beautiful blue eyes, and I hope they stay that way a little longer.
